Chapter 14 - The Final Piece of the Puzzle

“Mother’s letter was a trap,” Arthur said, looking down at the impostor with absolute contempt. “My wife knew about you. She warned me in that very letter that if anything ever happened to the real Julian, you would come for the trust. You thought by framing Lily and using Victoria to humiliate her, you could force Dr. Vance to take her out of the country so you could dispose of her quietly!”
The impostor reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a small silver pocket knife, stepping back toward the balcony railing. “It doesn't matter! The trust is broken! Lily isn't Thomas’s daughter anyway! You can’t prove her lineage!”
Arthur let out a low, dark chuckle. He turned and looked down at the dining hall, where Lily sat wrapped in her blanket, watching the scene with wide, calm blue eyes.
“I don't need to prove her lineage to you,” Arthur said. “Because six years ago, when Thomas survived that crash, he went into deep hiding to escape your assassins. He gave me his daughter to raise as an orphan until the threat was eliminated.”
Arthur looked toward the massive open double doors of the mansion entrance.
Through the rain and fog outside, a tall man walked into the foyer. He wore a heavy wool coat, his face scarred on one side from old burns, but his eyes—those unmistakable, brilliant Sterling blue eyes—shone with fierce emotion as he looked up at the balcony.

“Hello, Brother,” the scarred man said, his voice deep and raspy. “Did you really think fire could kill a Sterling?”
The impostor stared at Thomas in absolute horror, his silver knife slipping from his trembling fingers and clattering onto the marble floor below.
