Chapter 11 - Anna’s Revenge

Anna admitted it.

Eventually.

Not immediately.

Daniel met her with attorneys present.

She was forty-one.

Tired.

Controlled.

Nothing like the unstable villain Patricia had described.

She listened as Daniel laid out the forged signatures.

Then:

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Her eyes hardened.

“Because Patricia signed away my life first.”

Not literally.

Emotionally.

When Anna was seventeen, Patricia pressured hospital social workers to keep her away from the Whitmore family.

Patricia lied that Anna was unstable.

Unsafe.

A risk.

Those statements followed Anna through the guardianship case.

Years later, when Anna learned her daughter had lived, she believed Patricia had stolen her.

Raymond fed that belief.

So Anna retaliated.

She forged Patricia’s name on records.

At first to access sealed files.

Later to move J-4.

“You transferred Claire’s embryo?”

“Yes.”

Claire recoiled.

“You used my child for revenge?”

Anna’s eyes filled.

“I wanted Patricia to understand what it felt like not to know where your child was.”

Silence.

Horrifying.

Logical.

Unforgivable.

Did Anna carry the pregnancy?

No.

She arranged a carrier through Meridian.

Who believed paperwork was legitimate.

The child was born.

Boy.

Three years old.

Where?

Anna refused.

Daniel’s voice hardened.

“He is not a weapon between families.”

Anna looked away.

Then Sophie entered the story.

Anna knew where her daughter was.

Had known for two years.

Why not approach her?

Because Megan, Sophie’s guardian, threatened legal action after Anna appeared at school once.

Anna had sent letters instead.

Unanswered.

Then Henry contacted her.

He proposed mediated reunification.

She agreed.

He died before it happened.

So who sent the anonymous emails to Claire?

Anna admitted some.

Not all.

She sent:

YOUR DAUGHTER IS LIVING ON BORROWED TIME.

Why?

To make Claire investigate Jacob’s heart condition and discover Patricia’s secrecy.

Cruel tactic.

But not the later messages.

One later email said:

CHRISTMAS WILL END WHEN THE WRONG CHILD OPENS THE RIGHT LETTER.

Anna denied writing it.

That message terrified Patricia.

Because it specifically referenced letters.

Only a handful knew.

Henry.

Patricia.

Michael.

Raymond.

Perhaps Evelyn.

Daniel.

Claire only recently.

Who else?

Then Michael confessed.

“I sent it.”

Everyone stared.

Why?

He wanted Claire and Patricia to stop pretending nothing happened.

He had discovered part of Henry’s archive.

He was angry.

He anonymously pushed Claire.

But he did not know about J-4.

He only knew Sophie.

Family truth becoming psychological warfare.

Everyone had turned secrets into weapons.

Then Anna finally revealed the location of Claire’s unknown son.

Not exact address.

A legal guardian.

The carrier, Brooke Ellis, had been abandoned by Meridian after legal problems surfaced.

Anna panicked.

She could not place the baby elsewhere without exposing herself.

Brooke bonded with him.

Wanted to keep him.

Anna agreed.

They created fraudulent-looking but eventually corrected guardianship through lawyers.

The boy was safe.

Name:

Noah.

Claire whispered:

“My son.”

Anna corrected her.

“Your biological son.”

Important difference.

Parenthood is more than genetics.

Claire cried anyway.

Then Anna handed Daniel one photograph.

Noah.

Curly brown hair.

Blue sweater.

And behind him, taped to a refrigerator—

a Christmas drawing from Lily.

Daniel stared.

“How does Noah have Lily’s drawing?”

May you like

Anna went pale.

“I don't know.”
