Chapter 6 - Chloe was never pregnant
Chloe requested an attorney before speaking to federal agents.
That was smart.
She was not arrested at the mansion.
But she remained a person investigators wanted to understand.
The first major surprise came from something mundane.
Hospital records.
There were none.
No pregnancy.
No obstetric appointments.
Nothing.
Chloe was not pregnant.
At all.
When confronted, she broke quickly.
“Julian told me to pretend.”
Why?
“He said Clara was going to lose the baby anyway.”
My body went cold when Harris repeated that sentence.
“Lose the baby?”
Chloe claimed Julian had been saying for weeks that my pregnancy was “medically unstable.”
False.
My OB had concerns because of previous losses, but this pregnancy was healthy.
“Why pretend?”
“His family needed Clara to panic.”
“What?”
Chloe started crying.
She said Beatrice gave her the cream dress.
Told her to touch her stomach.
Told her not to explicitly claim pregnancy if anyone recorded her.
Calculated.
Julian would announce it.
His parents would validate it.
Chloe would only perform.
“So he wanted me distressed?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know.”
I didn’t believe that part.
Neither did Harris.
Then Chloe admitted Julian promised her money and an apartment if she helped.
Was she his mistress?
Yes.
That part was real.
But she thought he planned to divorce me.
She had no idea about the FBI.
No idea about T-17.
No idea why my pregnancy mattered beyond inheritance.
Then she handed investigators text messages from Beatrice.
Make sure Clara creates the scene.
Arthur needs witnesses.
Another:
If she becomes hysterical, we finally have what we need.
What did they need?
Evidence I was unstable?
At eight months pregnant?
Then another message.
Once she falls, Julian knows what to do.
Harris went silent reading that.
“So the shove was planned?”
Chloe said:
“I didn’t know he would touch her.”
Maybe.
Again, evidence would decide.
Then investigators found a draft legal petition on Beatrice’s laptop.
Emergency guardianship regarding unborn child after maternal psychiatric crisis.
My blood ran cold.
They intended to trigger a breakdown.
Document it.
Then challenge my fitness.
But why before the baby was born?
Because something about my daughter needed to be controlled immediately.
Then Dr. Cole’s name surfaced again.
He had received $420,000 from Vance Meridian over five years.
Consulting fees.
No meaningful consulting work identified.
And when agents attempted to locate him, his clinic office was empty.
Dr. Cole had disappeared that morning.
