Chapter 10 - Dominic chose a side

Every instinct said Chloe kidnapped Dominic.
Security footage showed otherwise.
He left willingly.
Worse, Dominic disabled the alarm for her.
Amelia watched the recording.
“He chose her.”
I wasn't sure.
Twenty minutes later, I received Dominic's voicemail.
“Viv, don't follow me. Chloe isn't the enemy.”
Then:
“Your brother is.”
Which brother?
Of course he didn't say.
We traced Dominic's car to an abandoned Sterling warehouse.
Inside we found Chloe.
Alone.
Bleeding from a non-life-threatening wound.
Dominic was gone.
So was S7.
Victor accused her immediately.
She laughed.
“You still don't understand.”
Chloe admitted arranging the gala collision.
She wanted me to discover Dominic's double life because she needed me angry enough to activate the Sterlings simultaneously.
But she hadn't planted the surveillance cameras.
Hadn't threatened Alexander.
Hadn't photographed Sophia.
Someone else had hijacked her plan.
“Who?”
“I don't know.”
Convenient.
Then she gave me something.
A gala photograph.
Dominic upstairs with Amelia.
Behind them stood Nathaniel.
My second brother.
He'd told me he was in Boston that evening.
Nathaniel examined the image.
“That isn't me.”
Facial analysis suggested it was.
Then another camera showed the same man leaving before I arrived.
Victor ordered Nathaniel detained by family security.
I refused.
“No more reacting exactly how someone expects.”
For the first time, I saw pride in Chloe's face.
“That's why Mom chose you.”
I hated hearing her call my mother Mom.
Perhaps because some part of me believed her.
Then Dominic called.
Video.
He was inside a moving vehicle.
Terrified.
“I was wrong.”
“Where are you?”
“They made me think Chloe planned everything.”
“Who?”
He looked behind him.
Then whispered:
“Vivienne, S7 isn't tracking Sterling money.”
“What is it tracking?”
“Us.”
The video jolted.
Someone grabbed him.
Before disconnecting, Dominic shouted:
“Your father didn't build S7 to find a traitor!”
The screen went black.

A text appeared seconds later.
HE BUILT IT TO CREATE ONE.
