Chapter 11 - David Morgan’s Deal

Claire wanted to reject it.

Her father had been whistleblower.

The good man.

The outsider who challenged Richard.

Records complicated that story.

David Morgan had indeed discovered improper employee-share consolidation.

But years earlier, he also helped Martin draft restructuring amendment.

Not because he wanted steal.

Because Blackwood Construction faced hostile takeover.

Richard wanted temporary centralized voting power to block acquisition.

David advised legal route requiring beneficiary approval.

Richard feared delay.

Martin proposed forged emergency amendment.

David objected.

Then eventually helped design language—but did not sign.

Did that make him conspirator?

Partly.

Later he regretted.

When Richard failed promptly restore governance, David threatened exposure.

That forced transfer into stewardship trust.

So David was both participant and whistleblower.

Claire’s family benefit wasn't reward.

It was restitution for professional retaliation: David lost contracts/career after pushing correction.

Claire had grown up believing father left accounting voluntarily.

Another lie.

Then Nathan discovered.

He feared telling Claire would destroy memory of father.

So he delayed.

Same pattern.

Protection through silence.

Then why vanish?

Nathan’s recording showed he planned disclose board next morning.

He left manor alive with Martin.

Traffic camera captured Martin’s car.

They drove to regional airport.

Nathan boarded private charter?

Passenger manifest used alias.

Destination:

Toronto.

Why?

Meeting with institutional trustee holding duplicate beneficial records.

He intended return next day.

But he never did.

Flight records show return reservation canceled by Nathan himself.

Then bank transfer $250,000.

Martin returned “advance” Nathan had paid for investigation.

Nathan was alive after disappearance.

He chose not to return.

Why abandon Claire?

Caller finally answered partly.

“Because somebody sent him a photograph.”

“What photograph?”

A picture of Claire entering Blackwood Manor six months before Nathan disappeared.

Impossible.

Claire had never been there.

Woman looked like her from behind.

Champagne-colored dress.

Blonde hair.

Could be anyone.

Nathan believed Claire secretly met Eleanor.

He thought Claire might be part scheme.

He withdrew.

Didn’t confront.

Cowardice.

Then later discovered photograph staged.

By whom?

Martin.

Why?

Martin wanted Nathan distrust everyone until documents secured.

Again manipulation “for protection.”

Nathan learned truth too late.

He tried return.

Then something happened.

Caller said:

“He never made it onto plane.”

“Was he killed?”

“No.”

“Then where is he?”

Silence.

Claire screamed:

“WHERE IS MY HUSBAND?”

Caller finally said:

“In a hospital.”

Claire went still.

“He’s alive?”

“Yes.”

May you like

“Why hasn't he called me?”

“Because for three months, Nathan Bennett hasn't remembered your name.”
