Chapter 6 - What Lisa Saw
Lisa had been in the dark hallway before the shove.
She could not speak, but her communication specialist knew her gestures well.
Daniel refused leading questions.
A child forensic interviewer used pictures and simple choices.
Lisa showed:
Vanessa behind wheelchair.
Margaret seated.
Grace downstairs.
Daniel absent.
Vanessa looking left.
Looking right.
Hands pushing.
Wheelchair moving.
Lisa hiding.
Then Vanessa looking at Lisa.
Lisa demonstrated finger to lips.
Did Vanessa threaten her?
Lisa shook head.
Did Vanessa see her?
Yes.
What happened next?
Lisa ran away.
Why didn't she find Grace immediately?
She pointed toward kitchen.
Then upstairs.
She had panicked.
Then heard wheelchair clatter.
So Lisa was direct eyewitness.
Could she mistake Vanessa steadying chair?
She demonstrated again.
Two-handed forward shove.
No.
Then Margaret’s account through tablet.
Daniel sat beside her.
“Did Vanessa push you?”
YES.
“Did wheelchair start moving accidentally?”
NO.
“Did she say anything first?”
YES.
“What?”
Margaret struggled.
The tablet offered words.
SIGN.
YOU.
WILL.
Daniel assembled:
“You will sign?”
Margaret nodded.
Then:
OR.
Margaret paused.
Could not find phrase.
She pointed toward wheelchair.
Then stairs.
Daniel’s face changed.
“Did she threaten to push you if you didn't sign?”
Margaret shook head.
Interesting.
What then?
Margaret typed:
SHE SAID
YOU WILL SIGN
AFTER
Then tapped:
FEAR.
Daniel realized.
Vanessa had said:
“You’ll sign after you understand how unsafe this house is.”
Margaret nodded.
So shove may have been staged as “accident” to prove mansion unsafe and accelerate relocation.
Vanessa did not intend kill?
Possibly.
She may have believed wheelchair would stop at first landing?
But that would still be dangerous.
Daniel asked:
“Did she say she would hurt you?”
NO.
Then:
SORRY.
Daniel frowned.
“Vanessa said sorry?”
Margaret nodded.
When?
BEFORE.
That was chilling.
Vanessa apologized—
then pushed.
Daniel confronted her.
Vanessa denied.
Lisa and Margaret both indicated same action.
What possible defense?
Vanessa said:
“I pushed the chair.”
Daniel went still.
Finally.
“But not to send her down the staircase.”
Grace whispered:
“What?”
Vanessa explained.
Margaret had locked wheelchair brakes.
Vanessa tried move her away from staircase toward office.
She released one brake? No.
But prompt clearly shows deliberate shove toward stairs. We should not retcon visible action. User wants preserve plot. Vanessa intentionally shoved. So confession should fit.
Vanessa said:
“I pushed it. I thought Grace would catch her.”
Everyone stared.
There.
She knew Grace was below.
She had positioned Grace?
Earlier she sent Grace to foyer carrying linens.
She knew Grace would hear.
She claimed she intended a controlled scare.
A horrific staged near-accident.
Not death.
She wanted Margaret frightened enough to agree mansion unsafe.
She calculated first steps would slow chair and Grace would intercept.
But she could not guarantee.
Daniel’s face changed from anger to disgust.
“You used my mother’s disability as leverage.”
Vanessa cried.
“I was desperate.”
Lisa began shaking.
Because child had watched.
And Vanessa had apparently expected no one else to see.
Then Daniel asked:
“Why blame Grace?”
Vanessa’s answer came slowly.

“Because you walked in too soon.”
That was the first complete glimpse of how quickly her plan had changed.
