Police treated Noah carefully.
Seven-year-old witness under stress could misremember.
No leading questions.
No family interrogation.
A child forensic interviewer handled account.
Noah consistently described second older man.
Gray hair.
Brown jacket.
Blue-tagged key.
He saw him emerge from east gallery before Thomas.
The man put finger to lips.
Noah became frightened.
Then Thomas entered.
Eleanor appeared.
Fall occurred.
During chaos second man disappeared.
Was door-closing sound him rather than Thomas?
Possibly both used service route.
House logs showed service exit opened twice within ninety seconds.
Thomas admitted first.
Second opening unexplained.
Camera had been disabled.
Not hacked.
Lens covered by adhesive felt.
Physical preparation.
Someone planned exit.
Then blue key surfaced.
Not in mansion.
At Briar Ridge’s former records warehouse, now privately owned storage facility.
B-17 still existed.
Henry had not destroyed all keys.
Storage unit registered to:
HARRISON COLE ESTATE.
Harrison dead sixteen years.
Estate closed.
But unit fees paid annually through standing trust account administered by law firm.
No one had inspected contents.
Ethan obtained legal access through executor process.
Inside were boxes.
Claimant 17.
Maria Reed’s original statement.
Harrison’s altered inspection draft.
Henry’s correction letter.
And proof correction actually had been sent.
Regulator stamped receipt.
So central corporate wrongdoing was smaller than feared.
Harrison altered date.
Henry corrected later.
Settlement and remediation followed.
But public company history never acknowledged initial false filing.
Thomas reputation remained unfairly damaged.
Why hide file after correction?
Harrison feared personal consequences and removed originals into private storage.
Henry apparently learned location later but did nothing.
Then who held B-17 key now?
Law firm records showed duplicate released two months ago to authorized representative:
DAVID LANE.
Thomas froze.
Arthur Lane had another son?
No.
David Lane, age sixty-one, was Arthur’s nephew.
Thomas’s biological first cousin.
Retired attorney.
Why care?
David handled Arthur’s estate.
He discovered letters proving Henry knew Thomas adoption history and Harrison concealed Claimant 17.
He contacted Peter.
Peter admitted.
David was man behind some anonymous tips.
But did he enter mansion?
Yes.
He surrendered.
Noah identified him.
Why secret entry?
David wanted retrieve Henry’s safe inventory before Thomas arrived.
He believed Eleanor would destroy evidence if confronted.
Peter had given contractor access information.
David entered.
He watched Thomas arrive unexpectedly.
He hid.
When Eleanor fell, he panicked and left.
Did he cause fall?
No.
Footage fragments and Noah supported: Eleanor lost balance reaching for Thomas.
David never touched anyone.
Why not help?
Cowardice.
He feared arrest for trespass.
Then Ethan asked:
“Why did you have B-17 key?”
Arthur’s estate held it.
Harrison had given Arthur copy because Arthur once served outside counsel? Arthur engineer? Can't be outside counsel. Better Arthur had later consulted plant. But no need. David inherited packet from Arthur including key.
Arthur Lane had done consulting inspection for Briar Ridge and kept correspondence.
David found key after death.
Then one mystery remained:
Who told David there was safe behind Henry portrait?
Peter.
Who told Peter?
An unsigned letter supposedly from Eleanor.
Forgery.
Who wrote it?
Forensics compared typewriter.
It came from machine found in Briar Ridge storage.
Could Harrison have written decades ago?
Paper aging showed approximately fifteen years old.
Harrison died sixteen years ago.
Possibly.
Letter:
IF THOMAS EVER COMES BACK FOR HC-2, THE SAFE WILL TELL HIM WHY HENRY CHOSE HIM.
This wasn't invitation.
It was old contingency note.
Peter found it and interpreted as current clue.
Thus modern conspiracy was not one mastermind.
Peter manipulated Thomas.
David independently trespassed.
Old documents drove both.
But Claire asked:
“Why would Harrison write about HC-2?”
Thomas looked at cufflink.
“Because Harrison knew what Henry used me for.”
Ethan understood.
The cufflink wasn't only proof Thomas was Henry’s messenger.
