But claimed she did not terminate pregnancy.
Madeline went into spontaneous premature labor after placental separation.
Infant was born extremely premature.
Alive briefly.
Died within an hour.

Yes—but under research code, not Madeline’s name.
Why?
Richard Mercer feared another Aster-related diagnostic scandal.
He ordered records consolidated.
That was unethical concealment.
Could infant death be independently verified?
Yes.
Archived pathology, DNA from retained authorized tissue sample, and neonatal logs corroborated death.
No stolen living baby in Madeline’s case.
But Madeline had been denied truth that child was born alive.
Helen participated.

Emily seemed obvious.
Then Nathan confessed.

Daniel lunged toward him.
Vanessa stopped Daniel.
“Why?”
Nathan said he found Claire’s routine monitoring data showing dual-signal markers.
He used Richard’s preserved token to classify her as Case 18.
He wanted system to flag risk.
“Why secretly?”
“Because Daniel would shut it down.”
Daniel denied.
Nathan stared at him.
“You shut me down when I brought Emily file six months after she vanished.”
Daniel remembered.
Nathan had asked to reopen investigation.
Daniel, grieving father’s illness and protecting company, refused.
Another failure.
Nathan had not caused pregnancies.
He had secretly monitored Claire because he feared placental event.
Then why Lily’s call yesterday?
Nathan didn't know.
And Emily’s account?
Not him.
Investigators traced prepaid phone again.
New footage showed woman more clearly.
