Chapter 14 - Gloria's final secret

Arthur's hidden room contained files.
Years of them.
Brad.
Willow.
Adrian.
Knox.
Alexandra.
Dr. Keene.
Gloria.
My wife had done more than meet Alexandra.
She had negotiated.
After Willow's disappearance, Gloria feared Adrian would discover the farmhouse.
She went to Arthur.
He offered protection.
Price:
silence.
And one more thing.
The flash drive hidden inside the urn.
Gloria knew it existed.
But never gave it to Arthur.
Instead, she moved it before her death.
That explained why he never found it.
Then we found her final recording.
“Henry will hate me if he learns.”
Arthur:
“He doesn't need to.”
Gloria:
“Yes, he does.”
Then:
“I helped Willow disappear.”
I closed my eyes.
She had chosen secrecy too.
But another line changed everything.
Gloria told Arthur she wanted to expose Adrian after getting Willow and both children somewhere safe.
Arthur refused.
“You expose him, he exposes everyone.”
“What does that mean?”
Arthur controlled judges.
Police.
Donors.
Contractors.
Politicians.
Adrian's network overlapped with Arthur's.
If one fell, the other did too.
Gloria threatened to go public anyway.
Three days later, she died.
No poisoning.
No murder evidence.
But stress?
Threats?
Fear?
Impossible to measure.
Arthur insisted he never harmed her.
Maybe true.
Then we found a text sent the night before her death.
From Arthur:
If Henry learns Willow is alive, all three children become targets.
Three children?
Noah.
Ivy.
Who was the third?
Arthur refused to answer.
Willow knew.
Her face changed.
“Dad…”
“What?”
She looked terrified.
“I was pregnant when the crash happened.”
Silence.
No.
She continued.
Very early.
She lost consciousness.
Months later, at the farmhouse, Dr. Keene told her the baby had not survived.
Keene went pale.
“I didn't tell her that.”
Everyone turned.
“What?”
“When Willow woke fully, the pregnancy was no longer documented. I assumed it ended during trauma.”
“Assumed?”
He looked at Arthur.
Arthur closed his eyes.
The third child wasn't dead.
Arthur had arranged a private birth while Willow remained cognitively impaired.
Why?
Because the father wasn't Brad.
Not Knox.
Not Adrian.
Willow whispered:
“I don't know who.”
Arthur finally answered.
“The father was Grant Bell.”
His son.
My godson.
Willow had briefly seen Grant during her separation from Brad.
Arthur hid the baby because exposure would connect his family directly to Willow and the corruption investigation.
“Where is the child?”
Arthur looked at me.
“Alive.”
My knees nearly failed.
Another grandchild.
Seven years hidden.
Then:
“Who raised them?”
May you like
Arthur answered.
“Alexandra Vale.”
