Chapter 2 - The Ring on the Counter

I ran downstairs, my heart pounding harder with every step.

That was when I saw it.

Sarah’s wedding ring.

It sat alone in the center of the kitchen counter, catching the cold morning light like a final message.

Not a note.

Not a fight.

Not a scene.

Just the ring.

I grabbed my phone and called her immediately.

Voicemail.

Again.

Voicemail.

Again.

By the fifth call, anger had started turning into something much worse.

Panic.

Sarah wasn’t impulsive. She wasn’t reckless. She was careful, quiet, gentle—almost too gentle. The kind of woman who apologized when strangers bumped into her. The kind of woman who cleaned up every emotional mess in the house without ever raising her voice.

She wasn’t supposed to leave.

At least that’s what I had always believed.

But staring at that ring in my palm, I began to understand something terrifying.

Maybe Sarah hadn’t been weak.

May you like

Maybe she had just been waiting.

Cliffhanger: The abandoned ring forces Richard to confront the first impossible truth—Sarah didn’t run. She chose this.
