Chapter 5 - THE TRUST THEY CREATED FOR MY CHILDHelen had created a trust in my unborn daughter’s name.

It sounded protective.

It was anything but.

The Morgan Maternal Continuity Trust named my baby as beneficiary and Helen as emergency trustee if I became incapacitated, disappeared, or was declared unfit within twelve months of giving birth.

The trust could receive:

life-insurance proceeds,

income from the lake property,

development profits,

and any settlement related to maternal injury.

Trent was listed only as temporary guardian.

Richard was not listed at all.

Helen intended to control the money herself.

She had encouraged Trent’s violence because each incident created evidence of a “chaotic marital environment.” Then she planned to argue that the baby required placement with a stable grandmother.

Her cruelty was not uncontrolled emotion.

It was documentation.

The kitchen livestream could have been edited to show me crying, refusing instructions, and collapsing while the family attempted to “help.”

Nicole’s original recording destroyed that version.

But Helen had prepared another route.

Dr. Vale’s clinic created a draft report recommending that I undergo psychiatric observation immediately after delivery.

The report stated I had developed severe prenatal paranoia and believed my husband’s family wanted to steal my property.

The horrifying part was that the accusation was true.

They planned to use the truth itself as proof I was delusional.

My attorney, Clara Vance, joined the case that afternoon.

She reviewed the trust and found a hidden financial connection.

The original seed money came from a foundation called Maternal Horizons.

Helen publicly presented it as a charity assisting pregnant women in crisis.

In reality, the foundation had paid Dr. Vale, the false attorney, and two private guardianship consultants.

The charity was funding the conspiracy.

Clara traced its donors.

One donation stood out.

Three million dollars from Morgan Ridge Communities.

Investor money intended for development costs had been routed into Helen’s foundation, then used to build legal and medical control around me.

That meant Richard had funded the scheme.

Whether he knew Helen intended to betray him remained unclear.

Then investigators located Richard at a private airport.

He was not fleeing alone.

Dr. Vale stood beside him.

They carried two suitcases, corporate records, and a hard drive containing investor identities.

Helen was not with them.

Richard claimed she had disappeared with the offshore access codes.

Dr. Vale immediately attempted to portray himself as a pressured medical adviser.

But the hard drive contained invoices proving he had received ownership in North Vale Infrastructure.

He was not coerced.

He was invested.

At 6:12 p.m., Helen called my hospital room.

Her voice was gentle.

“Claire, everyone has become hysterical.”

I almost laughed.

“You told Trent to hurt me.”

“I told him to make you understand the seriousness of the situation.”

“You built a trust around taking my baby.”

“I built protection.”

“For whom?”

Silence.

Then she offered me a deal.

I would sign the lake-property transfer and withdraw my accusations against Nicole.

In exchange, Helen would surrender Trent’s insurance policy and allow me to retain custody after birth.

She was offering me permission to keep my own child.

“No,” I said.

Her voice sharpened.

“You have no idea what happens if those investors lose their money.”

“That is not my responsibility.”

“It will become your problem.”

The call ended.

Minutes later, the hospital’s fire alarm activated on the maternity floor.

Staff began controlled evacuation procedures.

The alarm was false.

But during the confusion, a woman wearing medical scrubs entered my room with a wheelchair and forged transfer papers.

Alex stopped her at the doorway.

She was an employee of Maternal Horizons.

Her phone contained instructions from Helen:

Move Claire before the attorney returns. Dr. Vale’s order is still active in the private system.

Helen had lost control of the family.

But she still controlled people inside the hospital network.

Then Clara received an alert from the county recorder.

Someone had submitted the lake-property transfer electronically.

The signature appeared to be mine.

The filing originated from Helen’s foundation office.

Cliffhanger: Helen no longer needed me to sign voluntarily—she had decided to complete the theft while I was trapped in the hospital.
