Chapter 4 - THE SISTER WHO RECORDED EVERYTHINGNicole was not allowed into my room alone.

Alex stayed near the door. An investigator sat beside the window. The hospital’s patient advocate joined us before she began speaking.
Nicole kept her eyes on the floor.
“I started filming because Mom thought humiliating you was funny.”
“That does not explain the medical records.”
She swallowed.
“Dr. Vale asked me to access your patient portal.”
“How?”
“Trent knew your password.”
Of course he did.
He had watched me type it months earlier when I checked a test result.
Nicole logged in and downloaded appointment summaries. Then she altered one intake questionnaire to make it appear I had reported hallucinations, panic attacks, and thoughts of harming myself.
I had reported none of those things.
“Why?” I asked.
She began crying.
“Dad said they only needed evidence to protect the land deal. He said nobody would actually take the baby away.”
I felt something inside me harden.
“You were willing to let them call me dangerous.”
“I thought it would be temporary.”
“So did everyone who helped them.”
Nicole’s tears did not move me.
Fear explained why she was finally speaking.
It did not erase the moment she held a phone over me while Trent struck me.
Still, evidence mattered.
She provided passwords to the private family chat, a cloud folder, and a backup drive she had hidden from Richard.
The drive contained months of recordings.
Richard meeting with developers.
Helen discussing the insurance policy.
Trent practicing my signature.
Dr. Vale advising them to document “emotional episodes.”
But one recording changed the structure of the entire case.
Richard and Helen were speaking alone.
Helen asked:
“What happens to Trent after the land transfers?”
Richard answered:
“He takes the blame if the medical plan becomes public.”
Helen sounded surprised.
“He’s our son.”
“He’s reckless. Reckless people are useful because everyone believes they act alone.”
Richard had never intended to protect Trent.
He planned to use his son’s violence as a shield for the financial fraud.
Trent believed he was gaining control of my property.
Richard intended to let him become the visible criminal while the development company survived elsewhere.
Nicole revealed that Richard had already moved investor funds into a new company called North Vale Infrastructure.
The company’s listed manager was Dr. Samuel Vale.
The obstetrician was not merely being paid for false records.
He was receiving ownership in the replacement project.
The originals—loan agreements, side letters, and unaltered medical coordination records—were stored in a safe at the Morgan family’s cabin.
Trent and Richard planned to destroy them that evening.
Alex and investigators left under a preservation order.
I remained in the hospital.
Three hours later, Alex called.
“They found the safe.”
“Was everything inside?”
“More than we expected.”
The cabin contained forged signature samples, insurance documents, medical messages, and a second phone belonging to Trent.
But Richard was not there.
Neither was Helen.
Only Trent had arrived.
He claimed his father ordered him to burn the records.
Then he offered investigators a deal.
He would surrender everything if they protected him from one person.
Not Richard.
Not Dr. Vale.
Helen.
According to Trent, his mother had opened a separate offshore account and planned to disappear with the investor money.
He said she had been manipulating all of them.
Then Alex found one final file on Trent’s phone.
It contained photographs of me asleep.
Medical charts.
Travel routes to my appointments.
And a message from Helen:
