The Maid They Humiliated / Chapter 14 / 15

Chapter 14 - The Ashford Gala

Rebecca returned to the same mansion.

Not because she was fearless.

Because her attorneys negotiated a controlled surrender meeting with investigators.

But Rebecca demanded privacy.

I ensured she got the opposite.

The Ashford Foundation’s annual donor event had already been scheduled.

Press.

Executives.

Politicians.

Many of the same guests who had filmed my humiliation.

I entered through the front doors wearing a dark blue suit.

No tray.

No uniform.

The room quieted anyway.

Some recognized me immediately.

The maid.

Giovanni entered several steps behind me with Franco.

Tyler came separately.

His presence caused whispers.

Rebecca stood beneath the chandelier where she had watched me kneel.

“Hannah.”

“Rebecca.”

Her eyes flickered.

Not Mom.

She had not earned it.

“You shouldn’t be here.”

“I heard that before.”

Investigators waited nearby.

Rebecca looked at Giovanni.

“Is this your revenge?”

He answered calmly.

“No.”

Then he looked toward me.

“It’s hers to decide what this is.”

That mattered.

I placed the locket on the same marble table where Tyler’s wineglass had stood.

Rebecca stared at it.

“You knew who I was.”

“Yes.”

“Before the gala.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because I needed to know what Margaret had told you.”

“So you hired me as a servant.”

“Yes.”

“And let Tyler humiliate me.”

Her face cracked.

“I didn’t know he would do that.”

“But after he did?”

Silence.

“You fired me.”

Rebecca’s eyes filled.

“I panicked.”

“You stole $450 from your daughter while she was trying to pay for the cancer treatment of the woman who raised her.”

Guests began lowering their phones.

This time nobody laughed.

Tyler stepped forward.

“I did something disgusting to Hannah.”

Rebecca snapped:

“Tyler, stop.”

“No.”

His voice shook.

“I poured wine over my own sister because I thought her uniform made her less important than me.”

He looked toward me.

“I was wrong before I knew she was my sister.”

That was the first apology from him that mattered.

Not because it repaired anything.

Because it required no excuse.

Then federal investigators entered.

Rebecca’s attorney protested.

I handed over the original data chip.

Margaret’s evidence.

Sofia supplied Lorenzo’s financial records.

Tyler supplied Rebecca’s ledger.

Giovanni supplied his father’s archives.

Four families’ secrets converged beneath one chandelier.

Rebecca looked around.

“Where is Alexander?”

Nobody knew.

Then every light in the mansion went out.

Guests screamed.

Emergency lighting activated.

Franco reached for me.

Giovanni moved in front of us.

A single television above the ballroom fireplace switched on.

Alexander appeared live.

Behind him was my mother.

Margaret.

My heart stopped.

He smiled into the camera.

“Very touching.”

Then he raised a syringe beside Mom’s IV line.

“If Hannah wants her mother alive, she’ll bring me the original chip.”

Giovanni whispered:

“No.”

I looked at the screen.

Alexander smiled.

“Come alone, daughter.”

Rebecca suddenly screamed:

“She is NOT your daughter!”

Alexander laughed.

Then looked directly into the camera.

“No, Rebecca.”

May you like

His expression changed.

“But she was supposed to be.”
