The box belonged to Mom.
Not Ryan.
Opened twenty years earlier with my father.
She had forgotten after stroke.
Ryan found key in her bedroom and used? Could access box only with ID/signature, not key alone. He could not lawfully. But he had attempted to gain POA.
Bank records showed Ryan visited branch twice but was denied without authority.
So box remained safe.
We went with Mom.

“Mom?”

We laughed.
