Chapter 6 - THE PERSON WHO BROUGHT PATRICIA INTO MY LIFEI met Patricia at a charity dinner hosted by the Whitmore Foundation.

She told me a mutual friend had placed us at the same table.

The seating records showed otherwise.

My company’s chief financial officer, Malcolm Pierce, personally requested that Patricia sit beside me.

Malcolm had worked for my family for twenty-five years.

He helped administer Eleanor’s estate after her death.

He knew the value of the girls’ trusts.

He also knew my travel schedule, insurance structure, and emotional state after losing my wife.

Evelyn reviewed his recent transactions.

Malcolm had transferred nearly two million dollars to Lane Family Behavioral Services through consulting contracts.

He was not merely introducing me to an attractive woman.

He was financing her access.

Thomas quietly locked Malcolm out of every corporate system.

Then we called him into an emergency video meeting without revealing what we knew.

He appeared from his office, calm and silver-haired.

“Is something wrong?”

“Why did you place Patricia beside me at the foundation dinner?”

His expression barely changed.

“I thought you might enjoy her company.”

“Why did you pay her brother?”

“Behavioral services for employee families.”

“We have no such program.”

He paused.

Then tried another explanation.

“Those invoices may have been miscategorized.”

Evelyn displayed the company records.

Malcolm stopped pretending.

“You were vulnerable,” he said. “The estate needed stability.”

“You selected a woman to marry me.”

“I selected someone capable of managing the household.”

“She terrorized my daughters.”

“That was not the intention.”

“You gave her their trust records.”

“I gave her enough information to understand the responsibilities.”

“Did Eleanor approve this?”

The name of my late wife changed his face.

“No.”

“Then why?”

Malcolm claimed Eleanor’s trusts were built from money that should have remained inside Whitmore Holdings. He believed placing almost fifty million dollars beyond company reach endangered long-term stability.

After Eleanor’s death, he tried to persuade me to merge the trusts with corporate family funds.

I refused.

So he created another route.

If Patricia became temporary guardian, treatment and residential expenses could redirect millions back into companies Malcolm controlled through silent partnerships.

Nathan’s Swiss facility was one of them.

Patricia’s role was to convince me Rosa was dangerous, weaken the girls emotionally, create behavioral records, and marry me before requesting authority.

My disappearance policy was a later addition.

Malcolm claimed Patricia designed that herself.

Patricia shouted from the living room:

“He’s lying!”

Malcolm heard her.

“You told me Adrian would sign everything willingly.”

“You told me he was too guilty to question it!”

They began accusing each other.

Conspiracies built on greed always mistake shared interest for loyalty.

Malcolm surrendered one final piece of information to protect himself.

Eleanor had discovered financial irregularities before her death.

She wrote a private memorandum instructing Malcolm to remove himself from the trusts.

He destroyed it.

But Rosa had unknowingly preserved a copy.

Years earlier, Eleanor gave Rosa a sealed packet to keep for the girls in case anything happened to her.

Rosa believed it contained personal letters.

The packet remained hidden inside the nursery wall.

We retrieved it under recorded supervision.

Inside were letters for Martina and Daniela.

There was also Eleanor’s memorandum.

She warned that Malcolm had attempted to use charitable foundations, medical programs, and guardianship structures to access protected family money.

She wrote:

If Adrian remarries, the greatest danger will not be the woman he loves. It will be the person who teaches her how to turn his love into authority.

Eleanor had anticipated the method.

Not Patricia specifically.

The system.

Malcolm had spent years waiting for a suitable person.

Patricia’s debt and ambition made her useful.

But the letters revealed another truth.

Eleanor had asked Rosa to remain with the girls because she trusted her more than any corporate adviser or extended relative.

Rosa was not simply an employee.

She was the person their mother had chosen as an additional protector.

I had almost dismissed her because Patricia whispered that she was too close.

Then Thomas received an alert from the private airfield.

Nathan Lane had arrived with a chartered plane.

He carried two emergency child-transport orders bearing a judge’s signature.

The judge confirmed the orders were fake.

But Nathan was not alone.

Malcolm’s son—my head of corporate legal affairs—stood beside him.

The conspiracy had a second generation.

And they were preparing to claim Patricia had acted entirely on my instructions.

Cliffhanger: Even after Patricia was exposed, the people behind her were trying to rewrite the entire scheme as a plan I had created against my own children.
