Chapter 5 - She Knew Before I Did

“What do you mean?” I asked.

There was a pause on the line.

“We found evidence she’d been preparing this for weeks.”

Weeks.

The word hit me harder than any accusation.

Weeks meant she hadn’t packed in panic.

Weeks meant she hadn’t left in tears after one sudden discovery.

Weeks meant she had known.

I started replaying every strange moment from the past month.

Sarah reorganizing the nursery drawers.

Sarah asking quiet questions about account access.

Sarah smiling absently while looking out the kitchen window.

Sarah telling me one night, almost too softly, “You seem happier when you’re away.”

At the time, I had barely looked up from my phone.

Now every one of those moments came back sharp and clear.

She wasn’t hoping I would change.

She was studying me.

Watching.

Waiting.

And while I believed I was living two separate lives—one with my wife and son, another with my mistress—Sarah had already uncovered the truth and was building her way out.

I thought I was controlling the marriage.

In reality, I had been walking straight into the trap she had quietly laid for me.

Cliffhanger: Richard finally understands the balance of power was never what he believed—and Sarah may know far more than just the affair.
