Chapter 12 - My Mother’s Letter
Anna brought the envelope in person.
She did not defend herself.
“I should have given it to you.”
“Yes.”
“I was afraid.”
“Yes.”
“I told myself Michael might still come back and explain better.”
“He didn’t.”
“No.”
Lena did not comfort her.
Then she opened.
Nora’s handwriting.
Lena,
If you are reading this, your father has allowed fear to become a permanent address.
Lena stopped.
Already mother understood.
Nora wrote what happened.
Michael worked for dangerous men.
