Chapter 1 - the concrete grave he built for me

The ceiling came down before I understood my brother-in-law had pressed the button.
One second I was standing beneath the warehouse cranes, arguing over an emergency maintenance report that made no sense. The next, forty years of steel and concrete folded inward. Dust turned noon into midnight. A beam crushed both my legs against the floor, and every breath scraped like broken glass through my ribs.
Then a flashlight cut through the dust.
“Elias?” I called, tasting blood.
His face appeared above me, calm and almost elegant in the gray haze. Elias Mercer stepped over shattered glass in a tailored work coat, untouched except for one line of dust on his sleeve. He crouched beside me with the composure of a man checking a watch.
“Enjoy your concrete grave, you arrogant billionaire,” he said. “I’m taking the company public tomorrow.”
Then he showed me the forged inspection reports. My digital signature. My approval. My death, already explained.
He had planned everything.
The corrupted maintenance emails. The emergency board meeting. The reason he insisted I come to Warehouse 14 alone. He had not only built a murder. He had built a story investors would applaud.
But Elias had made one mistake.
He thought the black transmitter in my hand controlled the warehouse alarm.
It didn’t.
I flipped open the cover and pressed the switch.
A violent metallic crash rolled through the building as steel shutters slammed shut over every exit. Above us, something heavier exploded — the empty getaway helicopter on the roof collapsing in a controlled fuel-suppression blast.
Elias’s face drained.
“You’re supposed to be dead!” he shouted, grabbing my collar.
I stared straight into his terrified eyes and said, “You didn’t bury a victim, Elias. You locked yourself inside a crime scene.”

Then, somewhere inside the rubble, hidden camera lights blinked red.
And the first recordings began uploading.
