Chapter 13 - Arthur Never Asked Me to Do This
Eleanor cried harder over Arthur’s recovered email than she had over her hair.
It was not long.
Arthur never wrote long emails.
Miriam,
I keep thinking about Julian’s future. Security, yes. Automatic transfer because he marries, no. Marriage can reveal judgment but it doesn’t certify it. Eleanor should decide timing and structure when the day comes. She knows him better than any trust instrument ever will.
That was all.
No $120 million.
No command.
No “promise.”
The promise Eleanor remembered had been emotional shorthand shaped over years.
Arthur wanted son safe.

“I chose not to ask because asking might make me responsible.”

Eleanor accepts letter, no relationship.

No blame inflation.

Victoria voice:

Julian:

Victoria:
Nothing she can prove.
Julian:
Victoria.
Then silence.
Then she says:
“She needed to understand who was joining whose family.”
Julian had heard that before ceremony.
He did not know specifics but knew Victoria did something.
He still told Eleanor not make scene.
This increases his culpability.
Julian had forgotten recording because app running from vow practice.
He turns over.
Eleanor listens.
“You knew something happened.”
“I knew she had confronted you somehow.”
“And you chose wedding.”
“Yes.”
