Chapter 11 - Eleanor's Greatest Lie

Eleanor denied it.
Until Victor showed her the laboratory authorization.
Her signature.
Then she stopped.
Thirty years earlier, Eleanor had learned Vincent was alive.
She also learned his disease might be inherited by Sarah.
Later, when Emily struggled to conceive with Nathan, Eleanor panicked.
She secretly contacted Vincent.
Asked him to screen embryos.
Vincent proposed experimental donor selection.
Eleanor refused his sample because of his disease.
She authorized use of preserved material from Victor.
Without telling Victor.
Without telling Emily.
She told herself she was helping her daughter have a healthy child.
She created Lily's genetic truth.
Victor could barely look at her.
“You made me the biological father of my daughter's child.”
“I wanted her baby healthy.”
“You took away everyone's consent.”
“I was afraid.”
“Fear doesn't make it love.”
That sentence destroyed Eleanor's defenses.
Lily heard enough to understand something was wrong.
Not the genetics.
Only that Grandma had lied.
She asked Victor:
“Are you still Grandpa?”
Victor knelt.
“Yes.”
“Even if the science says something weird?”
A broken laugh escaped him.
“Yes.”
Lily hugged him.
Titles mattered less than relationship.
But Eleanor's revelation still did not explain Emily's death.
Sarah had evidence.
Emily discovered what Eleanor had done.
She confronted Vincent.
Threatened exposure.
Three days later:
the accident.
Victor turned toward Vincent.
“You killed her.”
“No.”
Sarah agreed.
Vincent had wanted Emily alive.
Her genetic profile was valuable.
He ordered her taken after the crash.
But he did not cause it.
“Then who did?”
Eleanor looked frightened.
Sarah produced traffic footage.
A vehicle followed Emily that night.
Registered to Vale Security.
Marcus?
No.
Marcus was elsewhere.
Driver:
Claire.
Claire stared at the screen.
“That isn't possible.”
The timestamp was six years earlier.
May you like
Claire had never met the family.
But the woman driving looked exactly like her.
