Chapter 5 - The Corrupt Officer and the Missing Reports

Bradley Collins began cooperating before sunrise.
Not from conscience.
From fear.
His disabled body camera created a problem he could not explain away, especially when federal audio captured him joking about manufactured treason charges.
Investigators recovered messages between Collins and Frank.
They discussed previous domestic calls to the mansion.
There had been four.
I never knew.
A neighbor reported screaming twice.
A delivery driver once saw Evelyn bleeding near the driveway.
A home-health nurse contacted local authorities after noticing bruises.
Each report disappeared.
Collins marked two as unfounded.
Frank handled another personally.
The fourth was categorized as an accidental medical event without interviewing my mother alone.
They protected the house by controlling the paperwork around it.
Collins also helped Frank obtain police database information about me.
Most of my current military record was restricted, but the database returned enough to show I held federal credentials and active clearances.
Frank dismissed it.
He told Collins the information must belong to someone with a similar name.
That detail mattered.
Even before entering the mansion, Collins had reason to know I was not simply impersonating an officer.
He switched off his camera anyway.
He helped restrain me anyway.
He agreed to create an official-looking arrest anyway.
Then investigators found the draft report on Frank’s laptop.
It had been written before I arrived.
According to the draft, I entered the mansion in an unstable state, threatened my mother, presented fraudulent military equipment, and resisted lawful detention.
The report described injuries I had not yet received.
A split lip.
A shoulder strain.
A bruise near my cheek.
Frank had planned the evidence before creating it.
The secure audio captured him causing the exact injuries listed.
That was when the case changed.
This was no longer only a violent man losing control.
It was a planned use of police authority to discredit a witness and seize classified equipment.
Frank believed arresting me would accomplish three things.
Remove me from the house.
Prove Evelyn’s daughter was unstable.
And give him access to the secure terminal before anyone understood what it was.
He intended to search it for information he could use against me.
The encrypted system would never have opened for him.
But the attempt itself carried consequences far beyond the domestic scene he thought he controlled.
Collins stared at the recovered draft report during his interview.
Then asked for an attorney.

For the first time, the corrupt officer understood that Frank had not brought him in as a partner.
He had brought him in as a future scapegoat.
